Book cover for The Golden Notebook
by Doris Lessing

(School project)

The book is about this character called Anna, who has writer’s block when trying to write a book about free women. Instead she reflects about her own life, in four different coloured notebooks. Combining them at last in a final golden one.

Inspired by old marbled book covers, I took the colours from these notebooks and made the pattern by using nail polish and shaving foam as an alternative marbling technique.

By using those materials, historically very much associated with femininity, I wanted to incorporate the questions about identity from the book into the cover.
